(Re)Created during the 2024 Dance Source Houston Artist in Residence -  this quick & dirty exploration confronts audiences with the impact of a system built on the interplay between resilience and adversity. In just 12 minutes, Bourgeois-Z brings the paradoxical nature of capitalism to life with five women running in place, each interacting with objects that mordantly represent elements of consumption. As they move going nowhere, the lighting & sound create amnesiac clusters of memory and experience, with the only constant and reliable symbol of the relentless passage of time being a whimsical Kit-Cat clock. Through a blend of pedestrian and militant movement techniques, audiences are invited to hold their breath on a  journey that traverses between the beauty of the mundane and the allure of violence. Initally pitching a full scale interior design, I later chose to come on board as an Immersive Experience consultant. In this role, I worked directly with the main team and the interior designer Hala Iskandar. The scope included (a) building out a cohesive visual of the space as it were to be experienced by guests (b) consulting on specific elements with the design that facilitate a more immersive and engulfed feeling, such as soundscape, scentscape, visuals (c) creating a bridge between client requirements, interior design capacities, branding and digital design. The resulting collaboration rednered a phenomenal safe-heaven within the heart of Beirut. Laam is a multifunctional wellness hub with a cafe, two movement studios, a massage or private somatic practice studio, and an immersive salt room. Together We Walk is an immersive installation composed of digital monoliths, representing fragments of our existence as Lebanese people... A people navigating the ambiguity of contemporary history as others are across the globe. Situated in the locations of grief, resiliency and hope, Together We Walk brings the audience in direct contact with Lebanese society as they cope with the reality of a financial, sociopolitical and environmental crisis. Seven performers locomote within and between the monoliths in moments of absurdity and physical comedy, all of which lend themselves to a non-linear storyline.
